What the Verified badge does and does not say
Verified says one thing only: a real person stands behind this profile and manages it themselves. YabInfy does not check anyone's certificates, licences, experience or competence, and the badge is not for sale. Doctors here belong to the Landesärztekammer Hessen, and the Gießen regional office is the one that issues the doctor's identity card for the whole of Hesse.
The right to a second opinion before planned surgery
This right exists in German law, and most people who have recently arrived have never heard of it.
For certain planned operations that are not urgent, the doctor proposing the procedure is obliged to tell you that you may seek a second opinion, and to tell you far enough in advance that you have time to think. Public insurance pays for that second opinion, and the second doctor must not be the one who would perform the operation.
The practical point is that asking for a second opinion is not rude and is not a sign of distrust, and a German doctor will not read it that way. If an operation is proposed and it is not urgent, collect your records and your imaging and take them with you. Without the documents, a second opinion means repeating every test from the beginning.
In a small university city, the referral route matters more than distance
Gießen is not large and moving around inside it is easy, so distance is not your main problem here. What makes this city different is its university hospital.
The consequence for you is that many uncommon specialties are available here, but the route to them usually runs through a referral rather than through walking in. So a good GP is worth more here than in a city where everything is outpatient and direct. Find that first, and the rest after.
Questions that only apply here
- Are they taking new publicly insured patients?
- If surgery or heavy treatment is proposed, will they release your records and imaging for a second opinion?
- Will they write the referral into the relevant department of the university hospital?
- Do they give you written reports, or only explain things verbally?
- YabInfy checks none of this, so ask for it yourself, and ask to see the document where it matters.
If this group is not big enough for you
The set registered in Gießen is small. Marburg is close, and the larger cities in Hesse are reachable by train, so look at their lists on this site. Stay local for a GP and allow yourself a wider radius for specialists, because the number of visits is what differs.
Reviews and privacy
Nothing about looking is recorded. Nobody can see which profiles you looked at, and contact is never shown publicly. A review you decide to write is public, and the name attached is the one you entered. In a city this size, choose a short name.
Write about what you saw: the wait, the punctuality, and how they responded when you asked for records or for more explanation. Do not pass judgement on whether a diagnosis was right, and where you have doubts, the second opinion above is the proper route.
