Nordrhein or Westfalen, and why it matters here

Essen sits in North Rhine-Westphalia, and that state does not have one medical authority, it has two. Essen falls under Nordrhein, while a city as close as Dortmund falls under Westfalen-Lippe, even though both are in the same state. Look up a doctor's registration at the wrong one and you will find nothing, and you may walk away thinking the doctor is not registered at all. For Essen it is always Nordrhein.

Where an appointment actually comes from
