Persian-speaking Tutors

Persian-speaking teachers, tutors, coaches and instructors in Germany: German and English language teachers, music teachers, school tutors and fitness coaches who can explain what they teach in your own language. For most people who have recently arrived in Germany, the hard part of learning German is not the grammar itself, it is being taught the grammar in a language you are still learning. A teacher who speaks Persian removes that second layer, and that is the whole reason this page exists.

Why a teacher who speaks your language is different

Persian and German are built differently, so the mistakes a Persian speaker makes in German are predictable. Persian has no grammatical gender and no case system, it places the verb elsewhere, and it has no equivalent of the German article. A teacher who knows both languages sees the error coming before you make it, explains the rule once in a language you already think in, and does not have to teach you the vocabulary of the explanation first.

It matters outside the grammar too. A teacher who has been through Anmeldung, an Integrationskurs, a recognition procedure for a foreign degree or a first job interview in German can tell you which German you need first, and in which order. For children, a tutor who speaks to the parents in Persian and to the child in German closes a gap that school Nachhilfe usually leaves open.

Levels and the certificates people actually ask for

German follows the CEFR levels A1 to C2. The certificates asked for in Germany are the Goethe-Zertifikat, telc Deutsch (including the telc B1 and B2 exams for nursing and medical work), the DTZ taken at the end of an Integrationskurs, and TestDaF, DSH or ÖSD for university admission. On the English side the usual targets are IELTS (Academic and General), TOEFL iBT and the Cambridge exams. Ask a teacher directly which of these they have prepared students for, how recently, and what the pass looked like.

Online, or in your city

Most of the teachers here work online, over Zoom, Google Meet or Skype, which means the right teacher does not have to live in your city. Use the Online filter to see everyone who teaches remotely, or open a city in the list below to see who is nearby, and note that some coaches and instructors travel to the customer instead. If you are in Berlin, Hamburg, München or Frankfurt the city pages are the fastest route in. If your own city has nobody yet, the results will suggest people who work online from elsewhere in Germany, so an empty city is not a dead end.

What to ask before the first lesson

• A placement check or a trial lesson, and what it costs.
• The length of a lesson. German lessons are usually priced per Unterrichtsstunde, which is 45 minutes rather than 60, so compare the same unit before you compare prices.
• The price per lesson, and whether a block of lessons costs less.
• The cancellation window, and what happens if you miss a session.
• Who supplies the book or the material, and whether that is included.
• Your exact target, whether that is a DTZ date, a job interview, a school report or a piece you want to play, and the plan for reaching it.
• An invoice, if an employer, a Jobcenter or a course provider is paying.
• For children: how progress gets reported back to the parents.
