About Persian-speaking English language teacher
Persian-speaking English teachers in Germany: people who teach English and explain it in Persian. If you are a Persian speaker living in Germany and you need English, you are in a three-language situation that almost nobody plans for. Persian is the language at home, German is the language of the authorities and the school, and the language you need for university or for work is English. English courses in Germany are usually explained in German as well, so you end up learning one new language through another one you are still learning yourself. A teacher who speaks Persian removes that middle step.
Why learn English with a Persian-speaking teacher
When the explanation is in Persian, an hour of class is genuinely an hour of teaching, not half teaching and half translating the teaching. A teacher who speaks both can settle the difference between the present perfect and the past simple in one Persian sentence, where an English-only textbook spends two pages on it. For an adult who has studied English for years and still freezes when speaking, the value is even higher: the cause of that freeze is usually not grammar, it is the fear of getting it wrong, and it is easier to put that fear down in your own language.
What do you need the English for
- Studying: a large number of Master's programmes in Germany are taught entirely in English and ask for a language certificate at admission.
- Work: in IT, engineering and younger companies, the working language and the interview itself are often English, even when the company is German.
- Applications and immigration: files that require an official score rather than a self-assessment.
- Your child's school: English is a core subject in German schools, not a side one.
- Everyday speaking: talking without pauses and without translating in your head, which is the request adults make most often.
Say your goal in the first message. A course built for IELTS Academic and a course built for a job interview differ from the very first session.
Exams: IELTS, TOEFL and the rest
The usual targets are IELTS (the Academic version for university, General Training for work and immigration), TOEFL iBT, the Cambridge exams (B2 First and C1 Advanced), the Duolingo English Test, and TOEIC in corporate settings. Every university and every programme sets its own minimum, and not all of them accept every test, so read the language requirement on that specific programme page before you book an exam date, and only then look for a course. Ask the teacher directly whether they have taught for your exam, whether they run mock tests under real time pressure, and whether they correct your writing between sessions.
Where Persian speakers get stuck in English
Persian and English collide at a few predictable points, and a teacher who knows both goes looking for them in advance:
- The "th" in think and this does not exist in Persian and usually comes out as an s, z or d.
- The difference between w and v, because Persian writes and says both with one letter, so wine and vine arrive as the same word.
- Consonant clusters at the start of a word: Persian tends to add a helper vowel, which turns street and school into "estreet" and "eschool".
- The third-person pronoun: Persian uses one word for he and she, so mixing them up survives well into the advanced levels.
- The articles a, an and the, which Persian has no exact counterpart for and which translation alone will not fix.
- Word stress, which in English can move the meaning of a word.
None of these are hard. They simply repeat for years until somebody names them.
English at a German school
English starts in primary school in Germany and is a core subject (Hauptfach) at Gymnasium, which means the grade carries weight on the report and on the way to the Abitur. A child who speaks Persian at home learns English through German at school, and that extra step is usually where the grade slips. A tutor who understands all three languages can talk to the parents in Persian, read the school's book and homework in German, and teach the lesson in English. If the goal is to lift a grade, say from the start which book the class uses and when the next test is.
Online, from any city
English lessons are usually taught online, over Zoom or Google Meet, so your city does not decide this and you can pick the right teacher from anywhere in Germany. Use the Online filter to see everyone who teaches remotely, and if you want to sit in the same room, start from the city list below.
What to ask before the first lesson
- A placement check from A1 to C2, and whether you get the result in writing.
- Teaching qualifications such as CELTA or DELTA, or a relevant degree, plus experience of teaching online.
- How much of each lesson you speak. A lesson where the teacher talks more than you is not a conversation lesson.
- Whether writing and homework get corrected between sessions, and how quickly.
- Which book or material is used, and whether it costs extra.
- The length and price of a lesson, whether a block costs less, and the cancellation window.
- A trial lesson or a first consultation, and what it costs.
- YabInfy checks none of this, so ask for it yourself, and ask to see the document where it matters.
Choosing between the teachers on this page
Read the reviews from earlier students, especially what they say about how the teacher explains things, punctuality and following up on homework. For a teacher those things tell you more about the lessons than anything else. Verified says one thing only: a real person stands behind this profile and manages it themselves. YabInfy does not check anyone's certificates, licences, experience or competence, and the badge is not for sale. Contact details sit behind "Show contact details" on each profile and reach the teacher directly, so you agree the lessons and the price with them and there is no booking fee on top. Searching, reading the reviews and making contact cost you nothing.
If you need German at the same time, see the German language teachers, and for every specialty at once, Tutors & instructors. There is more about how this site works in the FAQ, and if you teach English yourself, add your business.
