What the Verified badge does and does not say

Verified says one thing only: a real person stands behind this profile and manages it themselves. YabInfy does not check anyone's certificates, licences, experience or competence, and the badge is not for sale.

The certificate they must hand you before you pay

This is the most important thing to know when buying travel, and often nobody tells you.

If you are buying a package, meaning at least two services such as a flight and a hotel sold together as one package, German law says the seller must give you a security certificate before taking any money. That certificate shows your trip is insured against the operator's insolvency.

The cover extends to three things: money you have already paid if the trip does not happen, money you have to pay again because the operator never paid the hotel or the airline, and your journey home if the return flight was part of the same package.

So the rule is simple. No security certificate, no payment. Asking for it is entirely lawful and an honest seller will not be surprised by it. Keep the certificate until the trip is over, and photograph it on your phone.

Know one distinction as well. If you buy only a flight and arrange a hotel separately, that is not a package and this protection does not apply. That is one of the reasons a package is sometimes the safer purchase.

In Berlin, phone before you travel across the city

The Iranian agencies here are spread across several parts of the city and most of their work is done by phone and message. So there is no need to cross the city to get a price.

Going in person is worth it in one case: handing over documents or signing a contract. Make an appointment for that and take all the papers at once. And ask beforehand whether they take cards or cash, because for large sums that matters.

Ask before you pay

• Will you give me the security certificate with the confirmation?
• What does the final price include? Ask separately about baggage, seat selection and airport taxes.
• What are the terms for changing dates or cancelling, and what is the penalty?
• If a flight is cancelled, do you pursue it or do I?

Do not put your destination or your travel dates in a review. What helps the next reader is whether the quoted price matched the final one, whether documents were ready in time, and whether they were reachable when something went wrong. That last one is the real measure in this trade.
