About Persian-speaking General practitioners
A family doctor is the one relationship in German healthcare built to last. The practice you register with keeps a file that grows: what you were treated for, what you reacted badly to, which specialist saw you last winter and what they wrote back. That file is the whole point, which is why this choice deserves more than picking whichever surgery is nearest. Nobody wants to build that history twice, in a second language.
In an emergency, or if there is a risk to life, call 112. Outside surgery hours the medical on-call service answers on 116 117, and it can also help you find an appointment. This page is only a directory and is not an emergency service.
What the Verified badge does and does not say
Verified says one thing only: a real person stands behind this profile and manages it themselves. YabInfy does not check anyone's certificates, licences, experience or competence, and the badge is not for sale. Doctors licensed here are on their state medical chamber's register (Landesärztekammer), and those admitted to treat statutory patients appear in the public doctor search the physicians' associations publish, so you can check both yourself.
Registering with one practice, and your right to leave it
Nothing legally ties you to a practice. You choose your family doctor, and the rule is only that you should not switch part way through a calendar quarter without a good reason; at the turn of the quarter you can move without explaining yourself. How strictly that is applied is for the practice and your insurer to say.
What staying put gives you is cumulative and easy to underrate: one medication list instead of four, and results from three years ago sitting beside today's, so a slow change is visible as a change. Since 2025 statutory patients also get an electronic patient record unless they object, and the practice treating you most often is the one that makes it useful. If you move, ask the old practice for your records first.
The enrolment your insurer may offer
Most statutory insurers run a family-doctor programme (hausarztzentrierte Versorgung, usually called the Hausarztmodell). Joining is voluntary, signed with your insurer, and a real commitment: you undertake to go to that one doctor first, to see outpatient specialists on their referral, and to stay with the doctor you named for at least a year, changing sooner only for an important reason. Eye doctors and gynaecologists are the exceptions you may still approach directly. Participating practices generally promise faster appointments, longer consultations and tighter coordination, and some insurers add a bonus. The detail differs by insurer and region, so ask the practice whether it takes part before you sign.
The check-ups nobody rings to remind you about
Statutory cover includes preventive examinations you are entitled to, and they are claimed rather than offered. No letter arrives.
- The general health check (Gesundheitsuntersuchung, widely called the Check-up): once between 18 and 34, then from 35 every three years. From 35 it also covers urine, blood sugar and cholesterol.
- A one-off blood screening for hepatitis B and C from 35, inside that same check.
- Skin cancer screening from 35, every two years. Dermatologists do it, and so do family doctors holding the extra qualification, so ask whether the practice does.
- Bowel cancer screening from 50, as a stool test at set intervals or a colonoscopy. The ages were revised recently, so ask what applies now.
Cervical, breast, prostate and aortic screening sits with the relevant specialty instead. Every age and interval here is set nationally and has changed more than once, so let the practice or your insurer confirm the current version.
Vaccinations, and a record you no longer have
The practice is the ordinary place to be vaccinated, and the rule that catches people out is documentary: a vaccination nobody wrote down counts as one that never happened. If the yellow booklet is gone, start with the practices that gave you the injections, because doctors here must keep treatment records for years and one that finds the entry can issue a fresh booklet with the old dates in it. If nothing can be reconstructed you get a blank one, count as unvaccinated, and the national advice is to catch the vaccinations up rather than guess. An antibody test is not a substitute for the paperwork. Proof of measles protection is required for nurseries, schools and some jobs.
If something is going to be with you for years
For several long-term conditions, diabetes, asthma and chronic lung and heart disease among them, insurers run structured treatment programmes (Disease-Management-Programme, DMP). Your doctor checks whether you qualify and fills the papers in with you; joining is voluntary and free and you can stop when you like. What it buys is structure: appointments at fixed intervals the practice tracks rather than you, documented reviews, a place on a patient education course, and family doctor, specialists, hospital and pharmacy working from one plan. Which programmes your insurer holds a contract for varies.
Home visits, closed doors, and the wrong door
Home visits are, under the agreement between doctors and the insurers, primarily the family doctor's job, and the entitlement exists where illness makes coming in impossible or unreasonable rather than merely inconvenient. Your address has to fall inside the practice's normal catchment, tighter in a city than in the countryside and nowhere fixed as a distance, so ask when you register. Evenings, weekends and holidays belong to the on-call service, whose doctor is not yours and has not read your file, so whatever you come away with belongs in your practice's hands afterwards.
A lot of waiting here is spent at the wrong door. The practice itself normally handles the checks above, vaccinations, blood tests and the follow-up on results, repeat prescriptions and a medication review when several doctors prescribe at once, the doctor's half of forms, and the job of holding together whatever the specialists send back. It sends on what needs equipment, an operating list or a separate training, which is most of the "Specialty" filter above the results. And when a specialist appointment is urgent, ask the practice to arrange it: the system has a route for a family doctor to book an urgent slot directly.
What to ask before you register
- Whether they are taking new patients at all, which is not a given.
- Which of the doctors speaks Persian, on which days, and whether anyone on reception does.
- Whether they take part in your insurer's family-doctor programme, and what enrolling commits you to.
- Whether your address is inside their home-visit area, and how repeat prescriptions are ordered.
- YabInfy checks none of this, so ask for it yourself, and ask to see the document where it matters.
Choosing from this list
General practice is not divided into sub-categories here, so the results arrive as one long list, and the differences lie in how a practice is run rather than in any label: opening hours, whether the phone gets answered, whether they took you on, whether anyone called back about a result. Those are what an earlier patient can honestly report, and what the reviews here are good for. A review is not evidence about medical judgment, and a practice with none is not worse, only quieter. Each profile keeps its number and address behind "Show contact details & address", which reaches the practice and not us. Nothing here shows who read a page or who asked for a number; a review is the one thing you publish, under a name you choose.
A family doctor should be someone you can reach on foot when you are unwell, so start near home: Hamburg, Berlin, Köln, Frankfurt am Main, Düsseldorf, München, Bonn and Hannover. For every other field, go back to Doctors and dentists; children usually belong with a Paediatrician, and for therapy see Mental health. How this site works is in the FAQ, and if the practice here is your own, add it.
