Persian-speaking Allied health in Berlin

Where a course of treatment in Berlin actually begins

Unlike a doctor, you usually do not approach a physiotherapist or a speech therapist directly. A doctor writes you a Heilmittelverordnung first, and that single sheet fixes how many sessions you get and what kind of treatment they are. On public insurance your own share is ten per cent of each session plus ten euros for the prescription itself. If you hold an exemption certificate, show it at the first appointment rather than claiming the money back later.

The licence to practise these professions in Berlin is issued by the Landesamt für Gesundheit und Soziales, usually shortened to LAGeSo. The consequence that matters to you is this. These professions have no chamber, so there is no public register where you can look somebody up the way you can with a doctor. Asking directly is the only route there is.

Distance works differently here

A prescription is typically six sessions, once or twice a week, so you will make the same journey ten times. In a city the size of Berlin a practice that looks close on a map can turn into forty minutes each way once you add a line change, and forty minutes feels very different on the sixth visit than it did on the first.

Measure the practice against your own working hours before you book. A physiotherapy session runs twenty to thirty minutes, and a midday slot can cost you half a working day around it. Early morning and late afternoon slots are the scarce ones, so ask what they actually have free before you commit to a course.

Questions that only apply here

• Does your therapist have a contract with public insurance, or do they work privately and charge you directly?
• Will they take the prescription this week, or are appointments weeks out? A Heilmittelverordnung expires if treatment does not start in time.
• Do they treat at home? For an elderly or barely mobile patient, a doctor can prescribe home treatment.
• Is speech therapy available in Persian as well as German? For a child growing up bilingual that is the whole question, not a detail.
• YabInfy checks none of this, so ask for it yourself, and ask to see the document where it matters.

If this group is not big enough for you

Berlin holds the largest set of these professions in our directory, but a Persian-speaking therapist is not always available for the specific treatment you need. Two things usually work. One is to accept a German-speaking therapist who will slow down, and to bring somebody with you to the first session where the plan is explained. The other is to ask the doctor who wrote the prescription, because a practice that sees many Persian-speaking patients is generally known to the doctors referring into it.

Nothing about looking is recorded. We do not show who opened a profile or who got in touch, and we never publish it. Only a review you choose to write goes public, under whatever name you put on it. If your circle here is small and you would rather not be recognised, use a short name and write about the things only you can describe.

One thing worth keeping in mind. Your view of how you were treated, whether appointments started on time, and whether the plan was explained to you is genuinely useful to the next person. Whether the treatment itself was the right one is not something a patient is placed to judge, and that conversation belongs with the doctor who prescribed it.
