About Persian-speaking Psychiatrists
Persian-speaking psychiatrists in Germany. Many who land here want someone to talk to and assume a psychiatrist does that work; others knock on the wrong door for a prescription or a sick note. Psychiatry is the medical side of mental health, and this page says what happens in that room.
In an emergency, or if there is a risk to life, call 112. For a medical problem outside surgery hours, and for help finding an appointment, 116 117 is available. Telefonseelsorge answers free of charge around the clock, in German, on 0800 1110111 and 0800 1110222. This page is only a directory and is not an emergency service.
What the Verified badge does and does not say
Verified says one thing only: a real person stands behind this profile and manages it themselves. YabInfy does not check anyone's certificates, licences, experience or competence, and the badge is not for sale. You can check a doctor's licence and specialist title yourself, with your state's medical association (Landesärztekammer) or with your own insurer.
What a psychiatrist is allowed to do
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor first: a medical degree, then specialist training, and in Germany the full title is usually Facharzt für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie. That is what makes these possible:
- Making a diagnosis and recording it in your medical file.
- Prescribing medication and writing the prescription.
- Issuing a sick note (Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinigung).
- Ordering blood work and a physical check: ruling out bodily causes is part of the work.
- Referring you on, and arranging a hospital stay or day clinic (Tagesklinik) if needed.
You do not need a referral and can phone a practice directly, though if your GP holds your history, telling them makes everyone's job easier. This list has no sub-categories, so profiles are not split by focus: name your concern when you book and let the practice say if it is their area.
Two chairs, not two options
Very often a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist work side by side: one carries the prescription and the medical follow-up, the other the sessions. They are not competitors, and picking one does not rule out the other. For them to coordinate your consent is needed, so say at the start what you allow.
Some psychiatrists offer talking therapy in their own practice and many do not, even where their specialist title contains the word Psychotherapie: follow-ups are usually short and built around how the medication is going. So do not guess: ask. If the answer is no, the psychotherapist list and the mental health overview are your next stop, and for a tangled neurological and psychiatric question there is neurology and psychiatry.
What a first appointment is actually like
The first appointment is nearly always longer than the ones after it, but how long varies by practice, so ask on that first call how much time is set aside. It is a conversation plus a review of your history: since when something changed, what you have already tried, what medication you take, what physical conditions you have, and often blood work to rule out bodily causes.
It is not a test you can fail. There is no right answer, "I don't know" is a complete answer, and your thoughts need not be in order before you go. If you would rather bring someone, ask beforehand. And if you want the whole appointment in Persian, say so when you book: describing what did or did not change after starting a medication comes out more directly in your first language.
What to ask the doctor about medication
This page gives no advice about medication and cannot: which one, whether it is needed, and how much are settled only between you and your doctor. What you can bring is a list of questions:
- What it is meant to do: what should change, and how you would both know it is working.
- How long before any effect is expected.
- What to report: which changes to mention between appointments, and how.
- Interactions: put everything you take on the table, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and herbal products included.
- If you want to stop: stopping or reducing is a conversation with the doctor, not a decision to take alone or overnight. Ask what the right route is.
Repeat prescriptions, travel, and treatment that started elsewhere
The next prescription normally comes from the practice that started the treatment. Sometimes the GP issues the ones in between, but that is an explicit arrangement, not something to assume. Prescriptions are now mostly electronic (E-Rezept) and collected with your insurance card, and how far ahead to request the next one is a question for the practice. Raise travel in advance: how much you will have for the trip, and what to carry. Original packaging plus a doctor's letter eases a border, and whether a country lets a medicine in is for its embassy to say.
If your treatment started in another country, bring two things. First, a list of what you take written by active ingredient (Wirkstoff) rather than brand name, copied as printed on the box: brand names change between countries and may not be sold in Germany, while the active ingredient is the same and a doctor can work with it. Second, any earlier paperwork, with dates: treatment summaries, discharge letters and test results.
Sick notes and what an employer learns
A psychiatrist can issue a sick note. It travels electronically (eAU) from the practice to your insurer, the employer collects its own copy along that route, and that copy does not show your diagnosis. From which day and for how long you must hand one in depends on your own contract and workplace rules. If you are worried about what your employer sees, ask in the appointment.
What to ask on that first call
- The language of the appointment: the whole session in Persian, or only some staff.
- The specialist title: Facharzt für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie, or another one.
- The insurance relationship: statutory-insurer contract (Kassenzulassung) or private, and what it costs.
- Talking therapy in this practice: offered, or medical follow-up only.
- The length of the first appointment and the gap between later ones, and how to reach the practice in between.
- What gets recorded: if you have questions about what goes in your file or to the insurer, ask at the first appointment.
- YabInfy checks none of this, so ask for it yourself, and ask to see the document where it matters.
Choosing from this list
Psychiatric care in Germany is nearly always in person, because the examination, the blood work and the prescription are tied to a real practice, so the city list at the bottom of this page is where to start.
Read what other people wrote, but one review is not a verdict on a doctor's clinical skill, and nobody's treatment transfers to you. A review tells you something else: whether the doctor left time for questions, explained things in a way you could follow, and whether the practice answers the phone. You will not see Verified on every profile, and its absence says nothing about the quality of the work. The contact route sits behind "Show contact details" and reaches the practice directly.
This list leaves no trace of you: nobody, the practice included, sees who opened this page or whose number was revealed. The only thing that stays public is a review you write yourself, under a name you choose, so if you would rather not be recognised, pick one that does not point back to you.
