The Hausarzt, the GP, is the fixed point of your file in Germany. They write referrals, results come back to them, and they see your medications side by side and catch the interactions. Some insurers also run a family doctor programme in which you undertake to go to your GP first and get something back for it. Ask your own insurer what theirs involves, because the terms differ between them.

If you have recently arrived, do this one thing before the others. Finding a GP while you are well is far easier than finding one while you are ill.

Bremen is a city whose list is shorter than the city is

Do not treat those two facts as one. For a specialist appointment or a second opinion, an hour is fine. For a GP it makes no sense, because a GP has to be close enough that you can get there with something ordinary. So find your GP in Bremen and allow yourself a wider radius for specialists.

Reviews and privacy

Nothing about looking is recorded. No record is kept of the profiles you open, and none is ever shown to anybody. Writing a review is the one act that publishes anything, under a name you choose.

If you write one, write about how the practice works rather than about your illness. How long it took to get an appointment, whether they saw you near your slot, how reception treated you, and whether you understood the doctor. Keep your own medical detail out of it, because once it is public you cannot take it back.
