About Iranian Grocers in Frankfurt am Main
This page lists the Iranian grocers and supermarkets registered with us in Frankfurt am Main. For the general picture, see Grocers. What follows is about Frankfurt.
What the Verified badge does and does not say
Verified says one thing only: a real person stands behind this profile and manages it themselves. YabInfy does not check anyone's certificates, licences, experience or competence, and the badge is not for sale.
What you may bring back from Iran, and what you may not
Frankfurt has Germany's largest airport and most people returning from Iran arrive through it, so this is worth more here than anywhere else.
The rule is stricter than most people expect. Bringing meat and milk and anything made from them into the EU from outside it, in a traveller's luggage, is prohibited. That means cured meats, cheese, kashk, sausage and everything in that family. The reason is animal disease, and if it is found during a check it is confiscated and destroyed, with the disposal charged to you.
Plenty of what you actually want is fine, though: dried bread, sweets and chocolate without meat in them, spices, saffron, tea, nuts and dried fruit. Quantities that look commercial have rules of their own, so bring what is for your own household and keep the receipt.
The good news is that the prohibited items are all buyable in this city, which is exactly what the list below is for.
One more thing for the same journey. Do not lump prescription medicine you are bringing from Iran in with the groceries, because it has rules of its own. A quantity for personal use is usually fine, but carry the prescription or the original box so that you have a clear answer if you are asked.
Frankfurt is small but its region is large
Frankfurt is a small city with a wide region attached, and the S-Bahn funnels everything through the central station. A shop near a station is therefore reachable from the whole region, even if the address means nothing to you.
If you are coming in from the surrounding towns, combine the shopping with something else you were doing in the city. And watch the weight, because rice and pulses are heavier on a train than they look on the shelf.
Ask before you buy
- Do you take phone orders and put things aside?
- Do you stock rice and pulses in larger sacks?
- Which days do fresh herbs and bread arrive?
- If something is out of stock, will you order it, and how long does it take?
- YabInfy checks none of this, so ask for it yourself, and ask to see the document where it matters.
If this group is not big enough for you
The towns around Frankfurt are twenty to thirty minutes away by train and have their own lists on this site, so open your search to the whole region. For prepared food, look at the region's food and drink list as well.
Reviews and privacy
Nothing about looking is recorded. Viewing a shop profile is not stored, and we never show who went where. The one thing other readers see is a review of yours, under the name you pick.
If you write one, write about freshness and range. Whether the herbs were fresh or wilted, whether the saffron came sealed or loose, and whether prices were marked on the shelf or you had to ask. That last one matters more than you would think.
